Isaiah Spiller 2022 NFL Draft Profile

I’ve been a fan of Isaiah Spiller for a long, long time. I originally drafted Spiller for my fantasy team two years ago but how does his NFL future actually look? Heading into the 2022 NFL Draft, Spiller is one of many talented running backs in this class. Let’s check out the draft profile on the Texas A&M product!

Recently, I just did the Breece Hall scouting report. He’s kind of similar to Spiller. The Aggies’ back checks in at 6-foot but doesn’t run as tall as Hall does. No 40 and not nearly as fast. I have Spiller ahead of Hall on my ranks for two reasons: Shifty and vision.

Both of those things, Spiller excels at. He’s a really balanced runner that picks his spots to perfection. Really good knee bender and is really able to sink his hips when he needs to get somewhere. Both really good signs. He’s not a burner but he’s got more than enough juice to win on those outside runs. Really good at making guys miss. Quicker than fast.

Few red flags from Spiller. Sometimes, you wish he would just hit the hole more. It doesn’t happen often, but there is some hesitation in his game. Has fumbled in the past. That needs to be cleaned up. For a bigger back, you wish he was a bit more of a bruiser.

That being said, I think concerns about Spiller from this past year were a bit overblown. Spiller entered the season as my RB1 and should stay very much in that discussion. 5.6 yards per carry for his career works for me. Thought what he did this year was very impressive considering a number of offensive linemen left the team from the year prior. Defenses also made him the focal point after the injury to starting quarterback Haynes King. He’s sneaky in the pass game too.

The name Spiller might scare off some folks after CJ Spiller busted. These two guys aren’t close to the same. The Clemson Spiller was a glorified punt returner. The Texas A&M Spiller is a real three-down back. If you’re looking for one at the 2022 NFL Draft, this is a really good prospect to target.
